FemCap™ is a reusable, hormone-free, latex-free contraceptive device. It is a barrier contraception meathod used with spermicide, that is designed to remain in place during sexual activity to prevent sperm from entering the cervix. The FemCap™ can be applied 15 minutes – 40 hours prior to intercourse. It must remain inserted for at least 6 hours after intercourse and must be removed 24 hours after intercourse. FemCap was successful in preventing pregnancy in 85.6% typical, unadjusted use in a clinical trial.
The device has been FDA approved since 2003. FDA Approval means ‘it is determined to provide benefits that outweigh its known and potential risks for the intended population.’
